INDIVIDUAL DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

TO

JAMES GILLER

WHEREAS, James Giller has been a valued member of the Alameda County Bar Association for nearly fifty years, joining after receiving his law degree from University of Minnesota School of Law in 1957;

WHEREAS, James Giller is an accomplished criminal defense attorney, recognized as a legal specialist in criminal law by the State Bar of California, and a name partner at Mintz, Giller & Mintz in Oakland;

WHEREAS, James Giller was a stellar president of the Alameda County Bar Association in 1976, promoting professional ethics and responsibility, encouraging volunteerism, and working to improve bench-bar communications; and

WHEREAS, James Giller was instrumental in the creation of the Court Appointed Attorneys Program in 1976, a program that matches indigent criminal defendants with attorneys in cases where the public defender is unable to provide representation;

WHEREAS, James Giller has remained active in the Court Appointed Attorneys Program since its inception, helping to provide indigent defendants with high-quality legal representation and attorneys with practice experience in criminal law; and

WHEREAS, James Giller lead the fight to secure appropriate compensation for court-appointed attorneys who take death penalty cases in order to ensure indigent clients receive high-quality representation; and

WHEREAS, James Giller is a true advocate, defending his clients with compassion and zeal, as well as working to guarantee the rights of the incarcerated; and

WHEREAS, James Giller is always a pleasure to work with, with his professionalism, commitment, and sense of humor;

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the alameda county bar association hereby presents the Individual Distinguished Service Award and its great thanks to James Giller for unselfish and dedicated service to the ACBA and the community.
